Crowns

A crown is an artificial cap which fits over a damaged tooth to restore its natural appearance and function. It may be used to repair teeth or improve their appearance where ordinary filling materials will be insufficient.

Crowns offer good aesthetics, correcting crooked or misshapen teeth as well as replacing large and unsightly fillings. Aesthetic metal-free and gold crowns are available at The Bristol Dental Practice and treatment only involves two visits.

A crown costs from £695 per tooth depending on the materials chosen.

Replacing missing teeth

The following are all ways of replacing missing teeth, each with their different benefits. It would be necessary to discuss with one of our dentists the most appropriate treatment to suit your own individual requirements.

Dentures

Dentures are cost effective false teeth that cover gaps of any size all the way up to what are known as full dentures, when all the teeth in the upper and lower jaws are replaced.

They can be either fixed or removable, and modern technology means that the traditional problem of movement, when a denture comes loose in the mouth, causing discomfort and embarrassment, has been greatly reduced. Prices are quoted on a case by case basis.

Bridges

Conventional bridges involve crowns being placed on teeth either side of a gap, in order to support one or more artificial teeth. Bridges cost from £695 per tooth.

Adhesive bridges

These have wings that stick to the adjacent teeth to hold the artificial tooth in place. They require less tooth preparation than a conventional bridge, but are not suitable in all areas of the mouth. Prices range from £695 per tooth.

Dental implants

These involve titanium screws being inserted into the jaw where they integrate with the bone and are able to support an artificial replacement. This is the most advanced method of replacing missing teeth and would not always be appropriate.

Treatment is usually completed over a period of 3 to 6 months. Our dentists would be able to advise you on this. An implant consultation including X-rays costs £125. For more information on crowns, bridges and implants offered in Bristol please telephone us today.

Inlays and onlays

Inlays and onlays are used to restore and protect damaged molars and premolars. They differ from conventional fillings in that they are crafted before being placed in the mouth. Made from ceramic or porcelain, they are used when the tooth is too damaged to support a normal filling, but not so badly damaged as to require a full crown.
