How do veneers work?
Composite veneers, made of white resin, can be applied in layers to the tooth, carefully building up the desired shape with a colour that fits surrounding teeth. Alternatively, sometimes we may create the composite veneer indirectly, taking moulds of the patient’s mouth and asking our dental laboratory to use them to make an accurate shape that the clinician can glue in place. Dental labs would also create porcelain veneers, which reflect light like natural teeth and create a beautiful look as well as being hard wearing. Well crafted porcelain veneers are works of art, and we only use the most skilled dental technicians for this work.
What can veneers be used for?
They elegantly restore chipped, misshapen or discoloured teeth. It’s often thought that veneers can be used in place of minor orthodontic treatment, but patients should be wary about their long-term oral health being damaged when a lot of tooth structure is removed to place veneers that appear to realign their teeth. If a patient genuinely needs orthodontic treatment, that is the best solution for them. However, sometimes it may be appropriate to use veneers in conjunction with orthodontics in mixed treatments. Composite veneers are flexible and can be used to complement other treatments easily because they can be added to or adjusted quickly.

What happens during a
consultation?
Patients will be treated by Dr Devin Vaghela, an experienced clinician with a special interest in smile makeovers and Digital Smile Design, which uses digital photography, video and software to show patients what the outcome will look like before they commit.
He accepts referrals to treat advanced restorative and tooth wear cases. Dr Vaghela will have a lengthy conversation with the patient to gain an accurate picture of their cosmetic aims and then carefully plan a treatment that delivers them with the least invasive dental work possible.
Porcelain veneers require the removal of healthy tooth tissue, so Dr Vahela will want to be sure that they are in the interests of the patient’s long-term oral health.
Do veneers need to be specially
cared for?
Neither porcelain or composite veneers require any special care, but like with any dental treatment patients should stick to the oral hygiene instructions their dentist has provided, which will be based around regular brushing and flossing.
