Check Ups

It is estimated that around half of all adults in the UK don’t regularly visit their dentist for a routine check up. Some people see check ups as an unnecessary and inconvenient expense, not realising that routine examinations are a critical part of ensuring their long-term oral health.

  • They enable your dentist to holistically monitor your oral health
  • Your dentist can offer oral care and advice which is individually tailored to you
  • Your dentist can monitor any potential or ongoing problems, recommending early interventions that could save you money in the long run
  • Your dentist will screen you for any signs of oral cancer

What happens at a check up?

A regular check up consists of a detailed examination of your teeth, gums and oral tissues and a conversation with your dentist where they will ask you about your overall health and lifestyle. It is important that you answer any questions as accurately as possible to ensure your dentist can give you the best advice.

If you are a new patient, in addition to the regular examination you will also receive:

  • An initial 60-minute consultation with your dentist
  • A complementary consultation with one of our treatment coordinators after your new patient examination
  • Any required 2D X-rays
  • A personal treatment plan
  • A saving of £50 (new patient examinations are normally £175 and are currently being offered for £125)

Why do I need a check up?

Your mouth faces a lot of everyday challenges. Although a good oral care routine will help to maintain its health in the short term, over a longer timeline problems can develop and gradually worsen. Some of these issues may not be obvious, and by the time you become aware of them it could be too late to avoid advanced and costly treatment. Your dentist will also look for evidence of oral cancer, a disease that kills thousands of adults in the UK every year.

How often do I need a
check up?

Patients are typically advised to have a check up twice a year, however, your dentist may suggest shorter or longer intervals depending on your personal circumstances. Patients with ongoing oral health issues are likely to need more regular monitoring than those whose teeth and gums are in excellent condition.

If you are a regular patient it is advisable to consider our prevention payment plan as this will save you money on the cost of your routine services.
