Dr Jonathan Cochrane – Principal (GDC No: 228321)

BDS, MFGDP(UK), MFDS RCS, CertConSed, MSc (Dental Implantology), CertImpDent (DGZI)

  • Member of two Royal College of Surgeons; Edinburgh and England
  • Special interests in Dental Implants, Oral Surgery and Sedation

Jonathan graduated from the University of Bristol in 2012. He joined the Bristol Dental Practice in 2016 and became Principal in 2019.

He was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons of England, MFGDP(UK) in 2013 and Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCS) in 2014.

To help provide dental treatment for nervous patients, in 2017 Jonathan completed a Certificate in Conscious Sedation at UCL (Eastman Dental Institute), thereby allowing him to safely provide intravenous sedation.

Continuing with postgraduate education, in 2017 he also became the youngest dentist to graduate from the University of Bristol with a 3-year Master’s degree (MSc) in Dental Implantology. Furthermore, in 2018 he became the first British Dentist to be awarded a Certificate in Implant Dentistry by the German Board of Oral Implantology (DGZI).

Jonathan’s special interests are Dental Implants, Oral Surgery and Sedation. Indeed, he is passionate about being able to rebuild his patients smiles!

Outside of work, Jonathan’s passions are skiing, automobiles and outdoor pursuits.


Dr Devin Vaghela – Dentist (GDC No: 85948)

BDS, MFDS RCS, Cert. Adv Aesthetic Dentistry (UCL)

Devin is a general practitioner with an interest in dental aesthetics, occlusion and functional corrections including jaw joint problems, the management of advanced tooth wear, dental implants, and in dental sleep medicine.

He obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Bristol in 2005 and subsequently membership at the Royal College of Surgeons, England, in 2008.

Following graduation he worked at the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery unit, Torbay Hospital, before returning to general practice.

He now spends his clinical time between the Bristol Dental Practice, London and Nairobi where he works as part of a multi-disciplinary specialist team.

Devin is a member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, the American Equilibration Society – a leading society in dental occlusion and TMD, British Society of Occlusal Studies, British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine, European Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, International Association for the Study of Pain, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists – a group dedicated to advancement and education in dental implants.

He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a group cultivating humanitarian efforts internationally to improve public welfare.


Dr Sherif Elbarbary – Dentist (GDC No: 260014)

BDS, MFDS RCS, MPros RCS (Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics), MJDF RCS

  • Special interests in Tooth Wear Management, Dental Implants and Smile Makeovers

Worked as a Restorative Dentist at state of the art dental practices which gave him a proper acquaintance and experience in treating complex restorative cases.

Sherif is currently working as a Clinical Teacher and Speciality Dentist in Restorative Dentistry at Bristol Dental School & Hospital where he supervises undergraduate dental students on clinics and accepts referrals from consultants to treat advanced restorative and tooth wear cases.

He is also an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His special interest areas include fixed and removable prosthodontics (replacement of missing teeth), Dental implants, restoring worn and broken down teeth and smile makeovers.

Outside dentistry, Sherif enjoys outdoors activities, Nature photography and playing football.


Dr Mariya Godsafe – Dentist (GDC No: 251794)

Mariya graduate from the University of Bristol in 2014, she has spent that last 5 years working in Oxfordshire as a general dentist and has now chosen to return to the city.

Since qualifying, Mariya has completed numerous postgraduate training programmes covering a range of topics in the field of Cosmetic Restorative Dentistry; including aesthetic composite restorative techniques and Invisalign Go training. Notably, Mariya successfully completed a 1 year certificated programme in Cosmetic Dentistry with Advanced Dental Seminars.

Mariya is very proactive with regard to her professional education, and will soon commence another year long certificated programme with the well-respected international Dawson Academy in Restorative Dentistry.

Mariya has an excellent eye for detail, which allows her to consistently deliver a high standard of work; restoring patients’ similes with natural looking and functional composite repairs. She has a keen interest in disease prevention, minimally invasive dentistry, aesthetic dentistry, management of tooth wear cases and simple orthodontics through Invisalign Go system.

In her personal life, Mariya enjoys being in the great outdoors – whether that be hiking, running, or skiing. With her return to Bristol, she is keen to return to ballroom dancing, which she successfully competed in whilst at Bristol University.


Dr Daniel Williams – Dentist (GDC No: 244196)

BSc, BDS, Cert. RestDent

Daniel is originally from Swansea and studied Biochemistry at Cardiff University, graduating in 2008. He then went on to study Dentistry at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2013.

Since graduating, Daniel has been providing comprehensive dental care for his patients in Swansea, Neath and Hereford. Daniel has experience in helping dentally anxious patients and has had the pleasure of caring for four generations of family members, which stands testament to the care Daniel provides.

Daniel is passionate about Dentistry and sets himself exceptionally high standards when delivering dental care. Daniel enjoys further enhancing his skills and has undergone further training in dental photography, direct and indirect dental veneers, composite bonding, smile design, and smile makeovers using composite resin. Daniel has a certificate in Restorative Dentistry from a year long programme in London with Professor Paul Tipton; being awarded ‘Best Dentist’ in 2017.

He has undergone dental implant training during a year-long programme in Harley Street, London. In the future Daniel would like to further develop these skills and undergo training in intravenous conscious sedation. Daniel prides himself on the high quality of dental care he provides and particularly excels in restorative and aesthetic dentistry. Daniel truly enjoys transforming his patient’s smiles and seeing the huge benefits this has in their lives.

In his spare time, Daniel enjoys most things related to health and fitness and enjoys keeping fit. Daniel has played both football and rugby and more recently has taken up golf, which he is still trying to improve on.


Mr Scott Deacon – Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No: 73099)

Scott was appointed as the Lead Consultant Orthodontist for NHS South West Cleft Service UK in 2005 and is currently the Clinical Director of this specialist service. Scott has worked in private practice undertaking orthodontic treatment since 2005 in the Bristol area.

Scott has a particular interest in aesthetics as he works with plastic and facial surgeons and in providing treatment with lingual appliances which fit on the inside of the teeth.

Scott has been a previous Training Programme Director for Orthodontics in the South West and the Course Director of Doctoral of Dental Surgery Programme based at the University of Bristol which trains orthodontists. He lectures in his specialist areas to many different kinds of professionals including surgeons, dentists, specialist orthodontists, dental therapist/nurses/hygienists and training undergraduate dentists. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at University of Bristol and has examined at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians Glasgow, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, University of Bristol and the University of Cardiff.

Scott has been for over 10 years the Clinical Project Lead for the CRANE Database at Royal College of Surgeons, England based in London. This is a national register of all babies born with cleft lip and cleft palate in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, which assesses the quality of treatment these children receive in the specialist centres. He has published in international journals on topics ranging from toothbrushes to outcomes in cleft treatment, co-authored chapters for textbooks on cleft care. He has previously been an Editor for the Oral Health Group of the Cochrane Collaboration and a Clinical Sub-Editor for the Journal of Orthodontics.

Scott has undertaken media work on TV with the BBC, Gadget Show, Channel 5, Sky and has been interviewed on national and local radio and for the national press.

Outside work Scott is a keen skier and Bristol Rugby fan.


Dr Vasilis Charalampakis – Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No: 263777)

Dr. Charalampakis is a 3rd generation orthodontist who has been around the profession from a very young age. He was born in Athens, Greece and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the National Kapodistrean University of Athens. During his studies, he gained additional clinical experience working as an assistant for his father and other prominent dental specialists.

After graduation, he spent 3 years in Saint Louis (USA) where he earned his Master of Science degree in one of the most historic and prestigious orthodontic residency programs in the world. There, Dr. Charalampakis honed his skills in a variety of orthodontic techniques, appliances and philosophies, treating patients under the guidance of more than 30 clinical instructors. He received advanced training in cutting edge orthodontic diagnostic and treatment techniques, including clear braces, lingual braces, aligner treatment and utilization of new 3D imaging technologies.

Dr. Charalampakis joined his family-owned orthodontic clinic in Athens in June 2015, where he practices with his father and brother (who are also orthodontists). He later joined The Bristol Dental Practice in 2019 and is very excited about creating beautiful smiles and providing high-quality services for Bristol.

He is a prolific reader and constantly works to expand his professional knowledge and experience. He also loves travelling, running, swimming and spending time with friends and family.


Dr Jane Ali – Dentist (GDC No: 70665)

  • Special interests in Cosmetic Dentistry, Nervous Patients and Preventive Dentistry

Jane qualified from Sheffield University in 1995. She joined Bristol Dental Practice in 1998 after a spell in dentistry in Australia. Her dental interests centre on cosmetic and preventive dentistry.

Jane holds further qualifications with the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (1998) and the University of Bristol (2011).

Jane’s interests away from the workplace include music, sport, cookery and bridge. She plays the flute with a community wind band and is currently training for the Bristol Half Marathon (which she does regularly) and recently completed the Bristol/Bath Marathon.


Dr Paul Reynolds – Dentist (GDC No: 54694)

Paul qualified at Manchester University in December 1980. He started work in Leicester at his father’s practice, before moving to Gloucester in 1984.

Further post-graduate qualifications were achieved, the DPDS from Bristol University in 1994 and the MFGDP (UK) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1997.

After many happy years in Gloucester the urge to see more of the world could not be put off. This lead to a round the world trip which included working in New South Wales, Australia for 2 years. On returning to the UK in 2001, Paul joined Bristol Dental Practice.

Paul has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and the reconstruction of worn and damaged teeth. He has a love of sailing and golf. Paul has completed the Olympic distance London Triathlon & ITU World Triathlon Leeds. He also enjoys rock climbing and skiing.


Lucy Doane – Therapist (GDC No: 198518)


  • Special interests in Prevention, Restorations and Whitening

Lucy firstly trained/practiced as a dental nurse at the Bristol Dental Practice, before studying Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Liverpool, qualifying in 2014. She initially worked throughout the South West before joining the practice again in 2019.

Lucy has particular professional interests in prevention, restorations and whitening.

Lucy has completed further courses in facial aesthetics (anti wrinkle treatment and dermal fillers).

Outside of work, Lucy loves live music, mountaineering and reading, especially Stephen King.


Gillian Daulby – Therapist (GDC No: 189207)

BA (Hons), DipDHDT RCS

Gill qualified in 2010 from Manchester Dental School, winning that year’s special GSK Award for Professionalism. She joined Bristol Dental Practice in 2013 and enjoys finding innovative ways to deliver periodontal (gum and hygiene) care for her patients. Gill got into the Dental profession following a two-week school work experience placement at a local Dental Practice.

In her spare time, she loves to garden and enjoys jogging.


Carina Thapa – Therapist (GDC No: 156963)


  • Special interests in Prevention, Restorations and Whitening

Carina joined the Bristol Dental Practice in 2019 after qualifying with a BSc in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from Cardiff University in 2017. She is positive, friendly, patient and likes to make her patients feel at ease. Her commitment and professionalism are reflected in her positive attitude in delivering and promoting Oral health.

Carina is bilingual in both English and Spanish. Outside work she enjoys salsa dancing, countryside walks and travelling; she has travelled to many countries and volunteered in dental camps in Asia.


Claire White – Hygienist (GDC No: 246395)


  • Special interests in Prevention, Oral Hygiene and Whitening

Claire graduated from the University of Bristol where she was awarded the GSK prize for demonstrating excellent ability in her clinical research project. Claire has a gentle, empathetic approach and enjoys caring for all her patients with an emphasis on preventative care.

Claire treats her patients with a holistic approach, always taking into consideration their lifestyle, diet, general health and stress levels, which can all be related to oral disease and health.


Rebecca Hawkings – Treatment Coordinator (GDC No: 146433)

Becca joined the Bristol Dental Practice in 2003 and qualified as a dental nurse in 2004. She enjoys being part of a team and caring for nervous patients. Indeed, she loves her Treatment Coordinator role where she gets to spend lots of time with new patients, helping them to understand and go through all their treatment options.

Outside of work Becca likes to spend time with her husband & two young children, cooking and socialising with friends.
