The Modern Solution To Tooth Loss Explained by The Bristol Dental Practice
DENTAL IMPLANTS – A MODERN SOLUTION TO TOOTH LOSS
Using dental implants, your missing or failing natural teeth can be replaced permanently. The Bristol Dental Practice in Bristol offers a wide range of implant-based treatments, which can be used to restore both cosmetic beauty and natural action to your jaw, whether one, some, or all of the teeth need replacing.
Each patient’s dental implant journey will be as unique and individual as they are. However, the all begin in the same way: with a dental implants consultation at our Bristol clinic.
At this consultation, implant dentist Dr Jonathan Cochrane will assess your suitability for dental implants, taking photographs, x-rays, and CT scans to help with diagnosis and treatment planning. Part of the process involves assessing your current level of bone density. Implants help to preserve the density of your jaw bone but if you have already experienced some bone shrinkage, we will discuss additional procedures and treatment options.
Remember that a lack of bone density does not have to exclude you from the benefits of dental implants in the modern day and age; you may just require a bone graft or sinus lift first.
Your Bristol implant dentist (Dr Jonathan Cochrane) will also determine how many dental implants you will need. When a single tooth is being replaced then one implant and one crown will be used. In cases of multiple tooth replacement, or when all your teeth are missing or failing, you won’t usually need as many implants as teeth because a series of carefully-placed dental implants can support up to a full arch of new teeth in crown or bridge form.
At the end of your consultation, your Bristol dentist will provide you with a fully customised treatment plan.
Dental implant placement
We can place your implants under either local anaesthetic or conscious sedation at our Bristol clinic. The latter option is a good solution if dental phobia contributed to your tooth loss.
Temporary teeth are usually fitted for the duration of healing, which takes approximately six months. After this you will be called back to our Bristol clinic for your permanent new teeth – a crown, a bridge, or a denture – to be attached.
